A Research Analyst with the Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC), Corti Paul Lakuma has won the 2016 FocusEconomics Analyst Forecast Awards for best Exchange Rate Forecaster for Uganda. He came ahead of David Cowan of Citigroup Global Market and a team of researchers from Standard Chartered Bank- Uganda, amongst other analysts.
The FocusEconomics Analyst Forecast Awards are yearly awards that recognize the analysts whose forecasts for the period are the most accurate. The 2016 Analyst Forecast Awards recognized the top economic forecasters for 2015 for 87 countries worldwide in six main macroeconomic indicators which include; GDP, Fiscal Balance, Inflation, Interest Rate, Exchange Rate and Current Account over a 24-month forecasting cycle.
The award assess the accuracy of the forecasts submitted to the Consensus Forecast survey by ranking forecasters according to the average of their discounted forecast errors. Errors are defined as the absolute difference between an individual forecast and the actual result of the macroeconomic indicator. The highest ranked analyst is the one with the lowest average discounted error.
