EXCERPTS
Q: Are you excited about joining EPRC?
A: Absolutely! Joining EPRC is an exciting opportunity that aligns perfectly with my passion for economics research and policy analysis. As a leading think tank, EPRC provides a dynamic environment where I can practically engage in rigorous research, contribute to policy discussions, and collaborate with experienced economists and policymakers. Moreover, I see this as a platform for continuous learning and professional growth, a place where I can refine my expertise, expand my research portfolio, and contribute meaningfully to shaping policies that drive sustainable and inclusive development.
Q: Has it always been your dream to be a researcher or is it fate that you find yourself working at an economics policy think tank?
A: From an early stage in my academic journey, I was drawn to the power of economic research in shaping policies that drive sustainable development. My curiosity about how economies function, especially in the context of Africa’s development challenges, led me to explore research as a tool to navigate these challenges. While one could argue that fate played a role in aligning me with a prestigious policy think tank like EPRC, my path has been largely intentional. I have actively participated in various research projects, both at Makerere University and with government agencies such as UBOS and the Ministry of Education and Sports, as well as during my time volunteering at the Environment for Development (EfD) Mak Centre. These experiences deepened my analytical skills and reinforced my commitment to generating research that informs policy. For my master’s research, I examined the effect of climate change on food prices in Sub-Saharan Africa, an issue of critical importance given the region’s vulnerability to climate shocks. Working at EPRC is not just a career milestone, it is also a training ground where I can refine my research skills, engage with leading policymakers, and contribute to high-impact economic research. I see this as an opportunity to grow as a researcher and deepen my expertise in policy analysis.

Q: What are those areas that you are passionate about, and you think will certainly find themselves among your investigation focus?
A: I am drawn to several key areas that are central to Uganda’s development. These include climate change adaptation and resilience, with a focus on strategies to protect vulnerable communities and promote sustainable livelihoods in the face of environmental challenges. I also find interest in the intersection of health and economic growth, particularly in how public health improvements drive productivity, reduce disparities, and build resilience against global health threats. Additionally, I am passionate about exploring public sector issues and their role in fostering economic growth and improving service delivery. Another area I am passionate about is the labor paradox in Uganda and Africa, where a mismatch exists between the skills of many youth and university graduates and labor market demands, among other areas.
Q: What inspires you?
A: What inspires me is the fear of being average. I’ve always had a desire to excel and make a meaningful impact, striving to push beyond the expected and challenge myself to achieve more. Simply going through the motions has never been enough for me, I’ve always aimed to exceed limits and pursue excellence. This drive has been fueled not only by my own aspirations but also by the incredible support I’ve received from my family, friends, tutors, and the many inspiring people I’ve met along my academic journey. Their encouragement, guidance, and belief in my potential have been instrumental in pushing me to reach new heights and never settle for mediocrity.
