Interns pose with EPRC staff during their sendoff
The Economic Policy Research Centre has awarded certificates of completion to eight interns after accomplishment of their three month internship programme.
The interns were attached to different departments where they performed research and non-research related activities. The interns also participated in training programmes such as impact evaluation and use of GIS to present spatial data. They also attended a motivational lecture by the Principal Research Fellow, Dr. Ibrahim Kasirye in which he talked about applying for a job, job interview preparations, applying for post graduate studies and how to source for career opportunities.
EPRC’s 2015 interns included Nicholas Kawooya who practiced with the ICT function, Mouris Opolot who practiced with the Information and Dissemination Unit, Eunice Kirabo who worked under the library and Barbabra Atwine who practiced accounting in the Finance Department. Others who practiced within the research function were Barbabra Atukwase attached to Macroeconomics department, Buluhane Paye -Microeconomic departments, Jalia Namalyo- Trade and Regional Integration Department and Enoch Bulime- Sectoral department.
Bidding farewell to the interns, the EPRC staff advised them to pursue their education beyond the first degree and to always strive to acquire more practical and life skills that are vital for success in the work environment. Emphasis was placed on effective communication, meeting deadlines, punctuality, professionalism and descent dressing, among others.
Prior to their send off, interns also presented their internship experiences to EPRC Staff. They all expressed gratitude for being offered the opportunity to get practical and hands on experience in the various disciplines at the Centre. They all appreciated the cordial working relationship, team work and professionalism exhibited by the EPRC staff. “I thank my supervisor and all staff for their constructive guidance throughout the internship period and my colleagues for the team spirit”, said Buluhane Paye during the sendoff.
The Centre provides internship opportunities on an annual basis for continuing university students who have completed their second or are in their final year of study with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA = 4). In addition the Centre also runs visiting fellowship Programme, where researchers can work with EPRC on designed assignments for mutual professional development. Many international students and researchers have been at EPRC as visiting research fellows.
