The fourth Annual Gender Statistics Forum(AGSF IV) jointly organized by UBOS,EPRC and the UN Women will be held on Thursday 19th November 2020 at the Kampala Serena Hotel from under the theme “Modernising National Statistical Systems to provide data and statistics to support sustainable peace and development in Africa”.
The forum is organized through a collaborative arrangement with Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS); Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC); Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD); Makerere University School of Women and Gender Studies (MUK-SWGS), and UN Women. It is part of a broader programme for institutionalizing gender statistics and promoting Gender Equality and guided by an overall theme; ‘‘Illuminating the path for Gender statistics to address Women’s empowerment’’.
This year, the AGSF IV will be held during the Africa Statistics Week during which the Gender Statistics Web Portal will be launched. The forum will also provide a platform for sharing of Gender Data work on the National Priority Gender Equality Indicators (NPGEIs) and two policy briefs on Uganda’s compliance with planning and budgeting tools for tracking public allocation for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE). The policy briefs represent an important milestone in making development in Uganda more inclusive and sustainable.
According to the organizers, the primary objective of the forum is to launch the Gender Statistics Web Portal and disseminate two policy briefs on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 5.c.1. This indicator contributes to the “Proportion of countries with systems to track and make public allocations for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment”. It measures Uganda’s progress towards Target 5c of the SDGs to “adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels”. The policy briefs will be discussed by high profile representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC).
The event which will enjoy a live coverage by NBS TV, will also be relayed via online platforms including social media and zoom. The forum provides a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and the appreciation of gender statistics. It targets multisectoral stakeholders including Government, Civil Society, Private Sector, research and academia and development partners and the media. The AGSF has been held annually since 2017.
