The third Annual Gender Statistics Forum (AGSF) slated for November 28, 2019 will provide a platform for launching the Time Use Survey (TUS 2017/18) report. It is scheduled to take place at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Thursday 28 November 2019.
The forum is organized through a collaborative arrangement with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD); Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC); Makerere University School of Women and Gender Studies (MUK-SWGS), and Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) with support from UN Women. It will take place at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
According to the organizers, is part of a wider program for institutionalizing gender statistics and promotion of Gender Equality; guided by a broad theme; ‘‘Illuminating the path for Gender statistics to address Women’s empowerment’’. The AGFS provides a platform for knowledge sharing, networking and appreciation of gender statistics and targets multisector stakeholders that include Government, Civil Society, Private sector, research and academia and development partners and the media among others.
This year the third AGSF is organized under the theme; ‘Quality gender statistics for inclusive development in Africa” aligned to the statistics week, with the main objective being to launch the 2017/18 Time Use Survey (TUS) report which will entail presentation of the key findings of the TUS
There will also be a presentation and discussions of Gender analytical working papers; presentation of thematic area working papers on time use, women’s empowerment and decision-making.
In the plenary, the forum will also provide space for participants to deliberate on key issues highlighted from the TUS and thematic papers and share experience on gender statistics. Documentation of commitments, strategies, and recommendations on advancing gender statistics will also be undertaken
The forum will attract participation of multiple stakeholders including data producers and users from Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Higher Local Governments, Civil Society, Private Sector Actors, Academia and Researchers, Development Partners and the media.
The first Annual Gender Statistics Forum (AGSF I) was held in November 2017. The AGSF I focused on increasing availability and access to gender statistics for informed evidence policy, programming and decision-making. Five thematic area working papers on gender statistics were disseminated and discussed namely: Energy, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Gender Based Violence (GBV) Lands and Agriculture. The second Annual Gender Statistics Forum (AGSF II) was held in November 2018 and focused on policy implications of the Gender Module of the National Governance, Peace and Security Survey (NGPSS 2017).
