The grant won by Ms Maria Nagawa aims at analyzing ways to promote exports of Uganda textiles, particularly bark to Canada. The grant is part of a bigger initiative by IDRC and the Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO Canada) launched to facilitate exports of specialty textiles and fabrics from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to Canada, as a new market destination.
The market entry study will focus on the business case for fabrics and shall provide employment opportunities for young persons, females, and where appropriate ethnic minority entrepreneurs in Uganda.
The study will further inform practitioners and policy analysts about the strategic relevance of the sector, provide a database of contacts of entrepreneurs in the sector, and propose practical solutions to overcome barriers to trade with Canada.
