How the limited access to services for victims of Gender Based Violence affects Uganda’s gender SDG targets
Women’s experiences of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) have serious negative, immediate and long-term consequences on their welfare. It prevents many from fully participating in society or achieving their potential. Despite the associated effects, access to SGBV services remains inadequate. Worse still, victims aware of the availability of services rarely use the services. This brief examines why access to SGBV services is low and its implication to attain gender SDG targets geared to eliminate violence against women. We recommend measures to promote an increase in awareness of SGBV response services, strengthen the capacity of local leaders, and adequately facilitate service providers as key policy actors responsible for improving access to SGBV services.
