Prevention of Nutrition Related Non-Communicable Diseases in Uganda Through a Healthy Food Environment

African Population and Health Research Centre and Priceless Africa: Developing a package of effective regulatory interventions for healthier food environment in Uganda April 2020-2022

Obesity has tripled in adults and doubled among children and adolescents in low and middle-income countries. This study aims to identify concrete context-relevant priority actions that promote healthy food environment as a strategy to enhance healthy dietary patterns and practices that facilitate knowledge translation pathways, to prevent nutrition related non-communicable diseases.

The Objectives of the study are;

To establish gaps in existing evidence related to the development and implementation of public policies and government actions on internationally recommended interventions to promote healthy diets in Uganda
To identify barriers and facilitators for development and implementation of food environments in Uganda
To estimate the economic burden of selected NR-NCD in Uganda
To use policy review, and legal and administrative feasibility assessments to design context specific interventions
