Madina in India

EPRC Senior Research Fellow Dr. Madina Guloba was one of the panelists at the fifth edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2020 held in New Delhi, India from 14-16th January, 2020.

The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community. It brings together, on annual basis, global leaders in policy, business, media and civil society to discuss cooperation on a wide range of pertinent international policy matters.

Dr.Guloba was a panelist during a session titled “Scorched Earth: Communities, Conflicts and Migrants”. The panelists explored how best to accelerate policy solutions that respond to the global challenge of Climate change which is one of the  drivers of migration and is responsible for creating climate refugees. Concerns were raised that despite the well-established causal connection between climate change and migration, global and regional responses to climate refugees were evolving slowly.

The other panelists for the session were Kanchan Gupta, Distinguished Fellow, Observer Research Foundation, Iztock Mirošič, Special Envoy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Slovenia,
Renata Lok-Dessallien, UN Resident Coordinator in India, Christine Cipolla, Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Operations, International Committee of the Red Cross, Switzerland. The session was moderated by Asle Toje, Member, Norwegian Nobel Committee.. The conference was hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs
