Public debt study dissemination workshop

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light the importance and challenges of debt management for economic development. Since 2010, Uganda has shifted its focus from poverty reduction to economic development, leading to a rise in its debt levels. The debt stock increased by 18.6 percent between June 2020 and January 2021 due to the pandemic-related expenditures.

To inform the policy debate on debt sustainability, the Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) conducted a study with the support of International Development Research Centre (IDRC) on the acquisition, structure, usage and sustainability of Uganda’s debt.

The dissemination workshop is themed, Sustainable, inclusive and environmentally responsive debt in Uganda: Implications of COVID-19

The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 18 July 2023, at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala starting at 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

The event will also be broadcast live on NTV from 3:30pm.
