The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) is Uganda’s leading independent policy think tank with an economics focus. Its mandate is to provide policy oriented research and other forms of analytical support to inform policy processes in Uganda. The Centre has repositioned itself as a Go-To Policy Think Tank—to be known globally for the work done locally.
EPRC uses resources from Government of Uganda and from other sources through its collaborative engagements with stakeholders. The Centre is searching for qualified persons with sound professional integrity to fill the positions indicated below.
EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
1. Research Fellow (4 Posts)
Reports to: Senior Research Fellow/ Head of Department
Job Role: Working collaboratively with Senior Research Fellows and Research Analysts to develop and direct policy analyses, program evaluation, and research studies.
Main Duties
a) Undertake empirical economic analysis;
b) Contribute to resource mobilisation and engage in demand-driven research work for and on behalf of the Centre;
c) Based on research findings and sound analysis, contribute to national policy discourse.
Requirements for the position
Education Qualifications; experience; key skills and competencies
a) Minimum of Master’s degree (by coursework and research) in any Economics field such as Agricultural
Economics, Development Economics, or other economics-related fields from a recognised University;
b) PhD in any economics field will be an added advantage;
c) Minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in a reputable research institution;
d) Proven experience conducting primary research, interacting with government and non-government actors;
e) A track record in producing written material for different audiences (academic and policy environment and the general public), including policy reports, research papers and briefs.
f) Quantitative research skills
g) Policy knowledge;
h) Proven high-level writing skills as primary author in published research papers and reports;
i) Demonstrated ability to use STATA, E-Views, GAMS or GAUSS for data analysis;
j) Ability to work well under pressure with discretion and judgment.
k) Ability to develop a network of contacts
l) Clear commitment to the work and values of EPRC
m) Be open-minded about the Centre’s multidisciplinary approach to its research agenda
n) Ability to work independently while offering support to other members of the team
o) Knowledge of current global and national economic issues;
p) High-level interpersonal skills and good communication skills;
q) Self-motivation and capability to work under tight deadlines in a competitive environment; and
r) Unquestionable integrity.
