The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) is Uganda’s leading economics research institution. Its mandate is to provide research and other forms of analytical support to Uganda’s development process. The Centre recently unveiled its new brand identity in order to reposition itself within the ever changing policy research environment. The rebranding aimed to reposition EPRC as a Go-To Policy Think Tank within the wider East Africa region. EPRC uses resources from Government of Uganda and Think Tank Initiative (TTI) under the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The Centre is searching for qualified persons with sound professional integrity to fill the positions indicated below.

1. Job title: Senior Research Fellow- Macroeconomics (1 post) Re- Advertised

Reports to:           Principal Research Fellow

Age limit:              At least 35 years

Main Duties;

  1. Undertake empirical analysis of macroeconomic issues
  2. Engage in commissioned work for and on behalf of the Centre
  3. Based on research findings and sound analysis, contribute to national policy discourse
  4. Guide research and capacity building activities of Research Fellows and Research Analysts
  5. Mentor and coach Research Fellows and Research Analysts

Requirements for the job:

  1. Excellent academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics or any related area in economics (by coursework and research), and master’s degree with a strong bias in macroeconomics from a reputable University
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to apply modern macro-economic theory and methods
  3. Strong analytical skills in macroeconomic modelling
  4. Strong training background in theory and methods of economic analysis
  5. Demonstrated ability to use either STATA, EViews, GAMS or GAUSS for data analysis
  6. Abreast with current global and national economic issues
  7. Proven high level writing skills as primary author in published research papers, review etc.
  8. Evidence of publication of own written articles in either local or international journals
  9. A minimum of three (3) years of postdoctoral research work experience with reputable research institution (s) in policy-oriented work
  10. Should have skills in writing proposals and grant applications to solicit funds from various development partners to support the Centre’s activities)
  11. Experience of successful management and leadership of a research team working on large research projects
  12. Self-motivation and capability to work under tight deadlines in a competitive environment
  13. High-level interpersonal skills and good communication skills
  14. Unquestionable integrity

 

2. Job title: Senior Research Fellow- Trade & Regional Integration (1 Post)

Reports to:           Principal Research Fellow

Age limit:            At least 35 years

 

Main Duties

a) Undertake empirical trade and/or regional integration policy research and analysis

b) Engage in commissioned work for and on behalf of the Centre

c) Based on research findings and sound analysis, contribute to national policy discourse

d) Actively participate in national trade and regional integration policy forums

e) Guide research and capacity building activities of Research Fellows and Research Analysts

f) Mentor and coach Research Fellows and Research Analysts

Requirements:

  1. Excellent academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics (by coursework and research) with strong bias in trade and economic integration issues from a reputable University

  3. Knowledge of both international and domestic trade will be an added advantage

The Senior Research Fellow position is for three (3) year contract, with a possibility for renewal subject to satisfactory performance. Attractive and internationally competitive remuneration package including healthcare coverage is offered.

 

3. Job Title: Research Analyst- Microeconomist (1 Post)

Age Limit:           Less than thirty five (35) years of age

Reports to:           Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

The Research Analystposition offers career development opportunities to holders of masters in economics, quantitative economics, development economics or related economic field.

Main Role;

  1. Undertake empirical economic policy research and analysis
  2. Engage in commissioned work for and on behalf of the Centre
  3. Based on research findings and sound analysis, contribute to national policy discourse

Job Requirements:

Candidates for the Research Analystprogram should be Ugandans and must have the following:-

  1. A Minimum of Master’s degree by coursework & research in economics, quantitative economics or related economic field from a recognized university;
  2. Strong training background in economic theory and methods
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply economic theory and methods to investigate empirical issues
  4. Abreast with current global and national economic issues
  5. Demonstrated ability to use either STATA, EViews, GAMS or GAUSS for data analysis
  6. Work experience of at least 2 years in a reputable institution/ organization
  7. Excellent writing skills
  8. High-level interpersonal skills and good communication skills
  9. Willingness and ability to work to tight deadlines in a competitive environment
  10. Unquestionable integrity

 

4. Job title: Research Analyst- Trade & Regional Integration (2 Positions)

Age Limit:           Less than thirty five (35) years of age

Reports to:           Senior Research Fellow (SRF)
